Description:

The Micah Experience™ is a NEW Catholic mission experience created by Group Workcamps Foundation. The Group Workcamps Foundation exists as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization to provide dynamic short-term mission trips. Since 1977, over a quarter of a million participants have grown in their relationship with Jesus, while providing more than 6 million hours of volunteer service directly to people in need.

Group Workcamps® is located in Loveland, Colorado where it all began! Be sure to read the interesting history of how Group Workcamps started.

Each year many Catholic parishes participate in our long-established, interdenominational Group Workcamps mission trips. They regularly express appreciation for the ecumenical nature of our trips, for the high level of organization we bring to our trips, and for providing teenagers opportunity to pursue social justice through service to the elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged.

However, for years some parishes have requested mission trips with distinctively Catholic programming. In response, we created The Micah Experience. The name is based on Micah 6:8, “ He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (NRSV)

The Micah Experience is developed and organized by Group Workcamps staff, but with programming specifically designed for Catholic teenagers. And, to make sure the programming is on-target, we’ve sought the advice and help of Catholic youth ministry experts and organizations from across the country. The Advisory Committee consists of:

* Bob McCarty, D. Min, Executive Director, NFCYM
* Kristin Witte, Coordinator of Past**** Care, Archdiocese of Baltimore
* Jerry Goebel, Founder & Director of ONEFamily Outreach
* Robert Feduccia, General Manager spiritandsong.com; Artist Relations and Product Development Associate Director of Spirit and Song
* Jim Knowles, Special Markets Manager, Group Publishing, Inc.

“There’s no doubt that service experiences are some of the most life-transforming experiences for a young person. I’ve long admired Group Workcamps and their amazing way of helping young people interpret their service in light of the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Micah Experience is a welcomed gift to the Catholic young people of this country.” John M. Vitek, President & CEO, Saint Mary's Press

"The Micah Experience will provide an effective blend of service, reflection, prayer, and Catholic social teaching. This will be a powerful experience of Catholic faith in action!” Bob McCarty, D. Min, Executive Director, NFCYM

On a Micah Experience short-term mission trip, you’ll find that “service” is balanced with “spiritual growth”. Our #1 goal is to provide an opportunity for God to work in the hearts of your teenagers. Through carefully planned evening programs, devotions and service projects, teenagers hear God’s Word…do God’s Word…and experience transformation. And, the byproduct is meaningful service for people in need.

Choose the home repair mission trip just right for your parish. The Micah Experience is a powerful way to put Catholic social teachings into practice. It's fun! It’s unforgettable! And, it will make a big impact in the lives of your teenagers…and the people they serve.
